Herbert at Rockingham

Johnny Herbert was reunited with a Quest FF1600 similar to his 1985 Formula Ford Festival winner at Rockingham for a Ford and Sky F1 promotional day. The car that is run for its owner by Rawlson Racing was used for the day by Johnny who said it was just like he remembered.

Johnny was immediately on the pace in the 1986 car and also on the ball recognising Barry Sheppard of Rawlson Ltd who produced all of the Quest bodywork back in the 1980’s.

Ex Rawlson Designers V8

Ex Rawlson Racing car designer from the 1970’s era who subsequently went on to be a designer at Team Lotus in the 70’s-80’s has had a V8 built by Guy at Rawlson Racing for a project car.

Roger Parker is building a special with a rover V8 power plant and asked Guy to build a fast road engine. We will se how this performs when the car is completed.


Envoy Mk1 Formula Junior 2013 success

1960 Envoy Mk1 Formula Junior success. After an off season rebuild by Rawlson Racing of the Engine, Gearbox and some suspension modifications on the car belonging to Charles Cook. The 2013 season got off to a slow start but bought success with a fantastic pole and win at the Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix in August. This amazing result was followed by chassis damage in race two requiring some tricky fabrication back at Rawlson Racing in order for Cook to have another great run at Zandvoort a couple of weeks later.

All of this was in preparation for the big one, GoodWood Revival 2013. With a fantastic 6th on the grid for the Chichester Cup, followed by a hard fort race finishing one place off the podium. Charles was over the moon with the car and its improved performance with fast but predictable handling and looks forward to Rawlson Racing making more progress with the car for 2014.

Cooper T56 in the Algarve.

Jeremy Deeley’s Cooper T56 Formula Junior won its class and was first drum braked car in the two Formula Junior races at the Algarve Historic Festival in October. The car, formally owned by Peter Jackson, has just undergone an extensive rebuild by Rawlson Racing. Including replacing many chassis tubes due to damage and some new rear uprights. Jeremy, among others, were impressed by the cars handling, presentation and rebuilt engine.

Good start!

We would like to congratulate Charles Cook on his first season in Formula Junior in 2012. In the Ford powered Envoy, Charles has had an exciting season getting faster and faster as Rawlson Racing and Charles work together on the car set up and engine improvements. More to come in 2013 we hope!

Donington Park HSCC

A good day was had at Donington Park on the 17th March by Jeremy Deeley in his Cooper T52 Formula Junior. Jeremy maintained a fast pace to head home just behind the much quicker cars in the class above him. Jeremy hopes to be out in his quicker Cooper T56 later in the year, but currently the car is going a full rebuild by Rawlson Racing.

F3 Test goes as planned.

After helping with the rebuild of a 1983 Ralt RT3 F3 car destined for this years Monaco Classic, Guy gave the car a shake down at a very wet Mallory Park. On Wednesday the 18th April Guy was setting a good pace behind of the wheel of the RT3 in its initial shake down prior to further testing with the owner at Brands Hatch the following week.

Guy said “After a very tight rebuild schedule it was a relief to drive the car at Mallory. The car felt very good and handled well despite the weather. Only minor adjustments are needed before the hand over to the customer”.
